Good Nutrition and Great Thinking - Good Nutrition influences not only the physical aspects, but the psychological ones as well. The brain is just like any other organ, and it will suffer disorders if it does not receive enough Oxygen and Energy. It has therefore been shown that malnourished children also suffer from decreased psychological, intellectual and affective development. An inadequate or unhealthy diet is not only seen in our country of Trinidad and Tobago but around the world this is due to lack of Knowledge or Lack of Will to apply the Principals correctly.
The first Principle of Good Nutrition is to use natural products and to prepare them as simply as possible. We are what we Eat - In other words, the human body is formed and maintained by what it/you/your family - children eats. Every body cell needs oxygen, water and nutrients which are carried to it by the blood (Water can sometimes be in the list of nutrients).
The Same Composition - Food is made up of the same chemical elements as our bodies: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, phosphorus, chlorine, iron etc. These elements are combined in various ways, make up the various nutrients: carbohydrates, fats, protein, minerals, vitamins
Classification According to Function
According to their functions, which are multiple and interrelated, nutrients are classified as: Proteins, Energy Nutrients: Carbohydrates and Fats, Protective and Regulatory Nutrients: Minerals and Vitamins.
The Growing Child - Proteins restore overused cells and ensure growth. Therefore, a child needs to consume proportionally more protein than adults. Good physical and even metal health at all ages depend on different factors. Some of the most important ones are but not limited to: Lots of Sunlight and Fresh Air, Open Spaces to move about in and a healthy, Balanced Diet.
